DIY PERLER BEAD RAINBOW AND UNICORN BROOCHES.
/DIY Perler Bead Brooches.
And so my love of Perler beads continues. These colourful tiny beads are such a fun blast from the past. As a kid I used to make things with them all the time but until recently they were something I hadn't used in years. Thankfully they seem as popular as ever and you can buy them in most craft and toy stores.
If you follow along on Instagram you may have already spotted these perler bead unicorns. They were one of the first things I made when I rediscovered Perler beads and I absolutely love them.
I've seen people make coasters, phone covers and even a clock using these beads but for this project, I decided to keep it simple and turn my unicorns and rainbows into brooches.
Supplies:
Glue Gun
An Iron

How to make a Perler Bead Unicorn.
1. Start by arranging your beads on the pegboard to make your unicorn design. To make the rainbow you'll need to use a circle shaped pegboard.
2. Lay your parchment paper on top of your design and gently iron over the top in a circular motion. You'll be able to see the beads start to melt and fuse together.
3. Leave to cool a little before peeling away your parchment paper. If you peel it away too soon the beads can stick to the paper.
I find it's easier to remove the design from the pegboard while it's still warm and pliable. To stop it curling up place a heavy book on top as it cools.
4. Use a glue gun and stick a brooch pin to the back.
And that's it! Your new unicorn brooches are ready to wear.
Another thing I always loved as a kid was fuzzy felts. I loved making up stories with the little felt pieces so if you don't want to wear them you can always have fun and make a cute little unicorn picture with them instead.
A good rainy day craft to keep the little ones busy and the not-so-little ones as well 😉
