What Are Valentine’s Day Mad Libs?

If you’ve never played Mad Libs before, you’re in for a sweet surprise! These are super fun, fill-in-the-blank stories where you and your friends and family add in the missing words to create a silly story.

But here’s the fun part: you have no idea what the story is about until you fill in all the blanks!

One player asks the others to provide random words (like adjectives, nouns, and verbs) without revealing the full story. Once all the blanks are filled, the story is read aloud—and cue the laughter!

Now, imagine that but with a Valentine’s Day twist—think candy hearts, secret admirers, giant teddy bears, and all the love-filled fun we adore. You’ll end up with some seriously sweet and funny stories. Perfect for any Valentine’s celebration!

We tested these out on the weekend. They were the perfect way to keep us entertained while we sat at the dinner table.

If you and your kiddos have as much fun as we did, you’ll be happy to know there’s a full set of 10 different Valentine Mad Libs stories available in my Etsy shop

Fun Valentine’s Day Mad Lib.

Now, onto the fun part — the printables! I’ve created a set of two free Valentine-themed Mad Libs that you can download and print right now. Here’s what’s included:

  • The Mystery Valentine’s Card: A silly tale about a card that doesn’t go exactly as planned!

  • Valentine’s Day Adventure: A fun-filled story about an eventful Valentine’s celebration with unexpected twists!

  • Mad Lib Word Game Instructions: Simple instructions to get you started, plus a list of words for inspiration.

How to Play Valentine’s Mad Libs.

  1. Choose a Story: Pick one of the Valentine’s Mad Libs sheets, which contains a pre-written story with blank spaces. Each blank will require a specific type of word, such as a noun, verb, or adjective.

  2. Fill in the Blanks: One player, called the “reader,” asks other players to provide words to fill in the blanks (missing words). The reader keeps the story a secret, so players just supply random words based on the type requested (e.g., a "noun" or "adjective").

  3. Types of Words Needed

    • Noun: A person, place, or thing (e.g., “chocolate,” “cupid,” or “rose”).

    • Verb: An action word (e.g., “hug,” “write,” or “dance”).

    • Adjective: A word that describes something (e.g., “sweet,” “romantic,” or “silly”).

  4. .Read the Story: Once all the blanks are filled in, the reader shares the complete story aloud. The random words make the results absolutely hilarious!

Example: If the story asks for an adjective and a noun, you might end up with something like this:
"The fluffy cupid danced on a giant chocolate!"
