Easy Origami Acorns.

I'm so excited to share a cute little project that will add an extra touch of autumn magic to your crafting. Today, we’re making adorable origami acorns!

If you’re looking for an easy paper craft that won’t take long to make, these cute paper acorns are the way to go. They are the perfect little paper craft to sprinkle around your house, string together for a garland, or even add to your Thanksgiving table.

Cute Paper Acorns.

One thing I love about this project is how easy it is. And since they are so easy, you can make a whole bunch in no time at all.

They're the perfect craft to get the kids involved with, especially the younger ones as it's a great way to teach kids some basic origami techniques.

You can use origami paper, scrapbook paper, or even plain old printer paper (just cut it into a square). There’s no glue, scissors, or extra tools required, making it a mess-free, grab-and-go kind of project.

Once you’ve got a bunch of these acorns folded, there are so many ways you can use them. One of my favourite things to do is string them together with twine and hang them as a garland.

They look adorable draped over the mantel or hanging in front of a window. You can also scatter them across your dining table as part of your fall decor, use them as gift tags or even as placeholders for a Thanksgiving dinner—just write your guests’ names on the top of the acorn cup!

Supplies:

How To Make An Origami Acorn.

You will need two pieces of origami paper to make each acorn. I used an orange piece of paper to make the nut and a brown piece for the cup.

1. To make the acorn cup you need to take a square piece of origami paper and fold it in half along the diagonal to make a triangle.

2. Take your origami triangle and fold it in half again to make a smaller triangle.

3. Open it back out.

4. Fold the top point down and past the bottom edge by around 1cm.

5. Fold the point back up. This time you want to fold the point up and past the top edge around 1cm to create a zig-zag fold.

6. Set this piece to the side for later.

7. Next we’re going to make the acorn nut.

Take a square piece of origami paper and fold it half to make a rectangle.

8. Open your paper back out.

9. Take the left-hand side and fold it in to meet the middle crease.

10. Repeat on the right-hand side.

11. Take your folded origami paper and fold the top edge down around 3cm.

12. Fold the bottom two corners in to meet in the middle to make 2 small triangle folds.

13. Take your two folded pieces of paper and slide the acorn nut under the zig-zag fold of the acorn cup.

14. Fold the right-hand side of the acorn cup over to the left. This will make a small pocket.

15. Repeat and fold the left-hand side over to the right.

16. Take the left-hand side and slide it into the right-hand side pocket.

17. Crease and press flat.

18. Fold the top two corners in to make small triangle folds and give shape to the top of the acorn.

You may need a little glue to hold this flaps in place.

19. Flip your over to reveal the finished origami acorn.

20. Decorate your acorns with cute Kawaii-style faces to finish.

I used this roll of eye stickers. It’s such a fun way to bring your acorns to life. You can even draw on little mouths or blush marks to make them extra cute!
