Honeycomb Paper Decorations.

Looking to decorate your home for an event without breaking the bank? Paper decorations are a fabulous way of decorating for a party on a budget.

I've made mine using red tissue paper but the beauty of this craft is that you can use any paper you fancy. Old book pages for a vintage look, scrapbook paper for a bright and colourful party or pastel paper for a wedding or baby shower.

And the great thing about making your own honeycomb paper is that it can be cut into as many different sizes and shapes as you can think of. It's a game changer if you want to add a 3D effect to your paper crafts.

You can use them to make paper honeycomb ornaments, cute gift toppers, to make pop-up cards or even place cards to add a pop of colour to a table.

How To Make Honeycomb Paper Out Of Tissue Paper.

You’re going to need around 50 sheets of regular tissue paper to make a honeycomb ball.

The honeycomb paper is made by layering up and glueing sheets of tissue paper on top of each other. You glue the sheets down using alternating lines of glue to create the honeycomb effect.

1. Fold and cut your tissue paper to size.

  • I took a stack of 20 large sheets of tissue paper and kept folding and cutting them in half until I had divided the paper into 8 even pieces a bit smaller than A4 size.

  • The size of your decorations depends on the size of your sheets of paper. If you want to make larger decorations you can cut your tissue paper to A3 size or even leave it as it is.

2. To make your glue guide take a piece of paper that is larger than your tissue paper and divide it into even sections.

  • If you want a dense honeycomb like the one you need to divide your paper up into 1-inch sections. The closer your lines the more cells your honeycomb ball will have.

  • To make it easier alternate the colours of the lines, pink, blue, pink, blue etc.

3. Tape your guide to your work surface.

4. Fix a sheet of tissue paper to your guide using some washi tape or other tape that can be easily removed.

5. Pick a colour, I started with the blue line and traced the glue stick gently along this guide to make a line of glue.

You may need to hold the tissue paper down so it doesn't rip.

6. Do the same for all the blue lines.

7. Lay your next sheet of tissue paper on top and press down on the glue lines.

8. On your next sheet run your glue stick over the pink lines and stick down another sheet of tissue paper on top.

7. Keep layering up your tissue paper sheets following the glueing guide and alternating between the pink and blue lines as you go until you have a stack of 50 sheets.

8. You can now use your honeycomb paper pad to make as many different honeycomb designs and DIY paper ornaments as you like.
