What is Grenadine?
Grenadine is a syrup used to make cocktails. It has a sweet-tart taste and a deep magenta colour. Originally made from pomegranate juice and sweetened with sugar it is now made up of a mix of raspberries, red currant, elderberries, blackcurrants and strawberries and a lot of sugar.
Nowadays a lot of them like the Roses Grenadine Syrup contain corn syrup. I’ve linked to the good stuff above but it can be a bit pricey. If you want to use an alternative that doesn’t use corn syrup but won’t break the bank may I suggest heading over to Chowhound for their homemade grenadine syrup recipe or Spruce Eats. It’s actually surprisingly easy to make.
