These pretty 3D stars can be used to make garlands, hung from branches or windows or tied to a gift bag for the perfect festive finishing touch.
Every year I try to make a couple more decorations to hang on the tree. So far I've made embossed clay stars, watercolour clay trees and candy canes, sparkle filled glass baubles, white clay Christmas decorations and finally these 3D Christmas paper stars. This year I decided to make some Froebel paper stars.
Froebel stars also known as German/Nordic/Danish or Moravian stars are a 3 dimensional star made by weaving 4 strips of paper. You'll need some strips of coloured or double-sided patterned paper measuring 1.5 cm by 45 cm. I bought mine from Sostrene Grene, a store recently opened up in Chester and I'm in love with every single thing they sell but for those of you without one nearby you can find a whole range of the paper strips on Etsy. The Starcraft in particular has some gorgeous patterned paper strips.
I'm not going to lie these stars do have quite a lot of steps. The first couple of times I tried to make them was a complete disaster so try to be patient. It does take a few tries to get right but once you get going it's hard to stop. To start making your own check out the video below.
