DIY Father's Day Medal.

Last year I showed you how to make an origami shirt and tie, this year I thought I'd show you how to make a DIY Father’s Day Origami Medal! It can be attached to a pin and used as a badge or popped on the front of a card.

These colourful medals are not only a great way to show Dad how much you appreciate all his hard work, but also a fun craft that adults and kids of all ages can enjoy. The older kids can help with more complex parts like folding and glueing, while younger kids can have fun with decorating.

Why not include one of these Printable Father's Day Cards?

Father's Day Origami Medal.

Origami makes the perfect DIY gift if you’re short on time. Especially easy origami like this medal as it can be made in only a matter of minutes.

To make this origami award ribbon you will only need a couple of sheets of paper and something to decorate them with.  I used alphabet stamps for the words but you could add a photo of Dad, get the kids to draw their picture or add a handwritten message.

These medals are not only fun to make but also make fantastic DIY gifts. Here are a few ways you could use your Origami Medals.

  • Award for Dad: Present the medal to Dad and write a special message like “Best Dad Ever,” “Number One Dad,” or “Super Dad” on the centre of the medal.

  • Party Decorations: Use these medals as decorations for your Father’s Day celebration. String them up around the house as a garland or make a giant one to hang on the wall.

  • Card Toppers or Gift Toppers: Add an origami medal to the top of your Father’s Day gift or card. It’s a unique and personal touch that makes any present or Father's Day card even more special.

  • Fun Competitions: Organise a friendly family competition with fun activities and games, awarding origami medals to the winners.

Thread them onto a piece of ribbon and create a special award ceremony to present them.  It’s a great way to add some fun and excitement to your Father’s Day celebration.

Supplies:

How To Make An Origami Medal.

1. Take your square of origami paper and fold it in half.

I used yellow origami paper to make the gold medal.

2. Open back out and fold in half again this time in the opposite direction.

Your origami paper should now be divided into 4 quarters.

3. Take one of the corners and fold it into the centre.

4. Repeat on the three remaining corners.

5. Repeat and fold all four corners into the centre again.

6. Take the four corners and fold them in again but this time make sure to fold them in around 1cm.

Top tip: Try to make your triangles as even as possible so you don’t end up with a wonky medal.

7. Flip over to reveal your finished medal.

How to make the Origami Ribbon.

1. Take your square piece of origami paper and fold it in half to make a rectangle.

2. Open back out and fold both sides in to meet the centre fold.

3. Take your paper and fold it in half again (with the flaps on the inside) to make a thinner rectangle.

4. Take your rectangle and fold it in half on an angle to make the ribbon for your origami medal.

5. Fold the left and right corners in to make small triangles and add some shape to your ribbon.

6. Write or stamp your message onto the blank medal.

7. Attach your medal to the ribbon using a glue stick.

If you want Dad to wear the medal, attach a safety pin to the back with sticky tape or a glue gun.

And there you have it, an adorable Father's Day origami craft. What better way to say “I love you!” and “Thanks for all you do” than with a cute handmade gift!
